Marianna Karakoulaki is a freelance journalist and editor based in Thessaloniki, Greece. She is the articles editor, director of the editorial board, and book series editor of the online academic publication E-IR.

She has been reporting on the Greek refugee crisis from the Greek Macedonian borders (Idomeni, Gevgelija), Thessaloniki, and Athens. She has worked as a field producer for Channel 4 News at the award winning film “Macedonia: Tracking Down the Refugee Kidnap Gangs” (London Foreign Press Association Award for News Story of the Year). She has also worked as a producer for several other media including BBC Radio 4 (UK), Radio Television Suisse (Switzerland), Human Rights Watch and others. She has written for several outlets including DW News, IRIN News, the Middle East Eye, Collectively and she worked  as a stringer for News that Moves (Internews).

As a commentator Marianna appeared at BBC Radio World Service, Voice of America, The Guardian, The Times, Bernardinai (Lithuania), Telerama (France) and others.
